Here is a little riddle for you. I am a 80 proof liquor. I am made from sloe stones. A sloe is kind of a little wild inedible plum, but very tasty once crushed, macerated in alcohol and distilled!
Since 1840, I have been produced using old stills in an even older house, the « Cellier Saint-Pierre », that you can easily find, right in front of the cathedral portal. I won the gold medal at the 1900 Paris Exposition, and like Coca-Cola, my recipe must remain secret. People love to serve me as a starter, as a digestive drink or for dessert.
Who am I (I gave you a clue in the description)? The answer is: I am Troyes sloe gin, « la Prunelle de Troyes ». I and the « andouillette » are the two culinary specialties of the city.
I am alsoan excellent souvenir that tourists pack in their luggage so they can haveanother taste of their stay in Troyes once home.
However, I am rather friendly by nature, and I will take no offense if you decide to bring home some sweets from the delightful chocolate factories of Troyes as well. Actually I can only advise you to push the door of Pascal Caffet’s shop, who is definitely having the noble job of a chocolate maker, and does not produce any coffee, in spite of a somewhat misleading name. And what a chocolate maker!
Master Pascal Caffet is one of the best pastry workers in France and a world champion in the dessert industry. He even exported his talented work to Japan, where people really love his creations.
Just enjoy, with no limit!
