About
Sommeval is a commune some twenty kilometers from Troyes, crossed by the RD89, which links up with Bouilly, 5 kilometers away.
It belongs to the Les Riceys canton since the 2014 cantonal redrawing.
It's a quiet village at the gateway to the Pays d'Othe, hilly, nestling at the bottom of a valley surrounded by forests. More than half of the village is wooded, with the communal forest covering 158 ha.
The elegant Saint-Martin church, built in the 19th century, and the Groley square, inaugurated in 2009, enhance this 2-flower commune. The GR2, a pilgrimage route to Santiago de Compostela, runs through the commune. Since 1998, a hiking trail, "le sentier du loup", has also been regularly used by walkers. The Echelle site, known as the "orchid lawn", is home to some fifteen varieties of orchid, listed by the Champagne-Ardenne conservatory of natural areas.
