Six centuries of painting, from Giotto to Corot
Like an art history lesson, the tour presents a panorama of European art from the 14th to the 19th century with more than 300 works from the most important collections. Sacred representations, history paintings, still lifes, royal portraits, landscapes... all pictorial genres and periods are represented and enhanced by a few art objects (enamels, ivory...) and sculptures.
Two years have already passed since the renovation, but the painting galleries of the Museum of Fine Arts are not standing still. Since last spring, a number of new acquisitions and pieces of furniture have been added to the exhibition. Thanks to the generosity of the Friends of the Museums of Art and History, a new painting by the Trojan artist Jacques de Létin has entered the municipal collections. This painting, which has remained in the painter's family for centuries, is both a representation of the allegory of Grammar (i.e. at the time, the learning of languages)... and also a very beautiful portrait of the artist's wife!
And at the corner of a picture rail, opposite a painting, the public discovers a medallion in the style of the great cabinetmaker Boulle... as well as an antique lion sleigh!
