About
The commune's name first appears in 1145 as Noe, meaning "fat, damp land" in Old French,
Rue des noues, which may also refer to a place planted with walnut trees, was an ancient Gallo-Roman road leading from Paris and Montereau to Les Noës, which was spelled Les Noës in 1167. In 1919, "près-Troyes" was added. The village of Les Noës, which found itself surrounded by these gullies, was then a farming village with between 50 and 200 inhabitants.
Until the 1970s, the population was rural (around 900 inhabitants), at which time the construction of the Chantereigne-Montvilliers Priority Urban Zone began, transforming the commune from a rural to an urban one, with 3,500 inhabitants in 1975, with no commerce or industry.
However, this has not prevented the commune of Les Noës-près-Troyes from flourishing in the Trojan conurbation, with a lively community life and a quality of life that is greatly appreciated by its residents. Les Noësprès-Troyes remains a community on a human scale, making it the smallest commune in the Aube department and the greater Troyenne area.
