La Motte Tilly is an elegant castle from the Enlightenment period, richly furnished and surrounded by French-style gardens.
It was built in 1754 for Joseph Marie Terray, who was to be appointed one of the most powerful ministers under Louis XV.
In 1910, the Comte de Rohan Chabot sought to return the estate and its grounds to their former glory. His daughter, the Marquise de Maillé, tastefully restored the furnishings and interior décor of the château, which now invites its visitors to imagine life in the 18th Century.
The castle is the main setting for ‘Valmont’, the film directed by Milos Forman and inspired by Choderlos de Laclos’ famous work ‘Les Liaisons Dangereuses’.
