Musée de la Maille – Mode et Industrie & Musée de la Renaissance en Champagne

Located opposite the portal of the Saint-Pantaléon church, the Hôtel de Vauluisant is one of the few stone buildings in Troyes. It houses two museums: the 16th-century Musée d'Art Champenois and the Musée de la Maille - Mode et Industrie.

THE "BEAUTIFUL 16TH CENTURY" IN CHAMPAGNE
Painted panels, statues and stained-glass windows illustrate the subtle transition from the aesthetics of the Gothic period at its height to the emerging, more precious aesthetics of the Renaissance.
The paintings reflect Italian and Nordic influences (Assumption of the Virgin, Dream of Saint Joseph).
In sculpture, all the trends of the century are represented: Maître de Chaource, Jacques Juliot, Dominique Florentin and François Gentil.
Stained-glass windows shine with the works of Linard Gontier (educational exhibition).

The most emblematic activity of Troyes, European city of knitwear. Ancestral know-how and textile creation. From wooden looms to the sophisticated machines of the "Golden Age" of the 19th and 20th centuries. Knitwear: stockings, socks, swimwear and knickers combine technique and aesthetics.
