The Pilgrim – Jivko Jeliazkov

Located on Place Jean-Jaurès, “The Pilgrim” is a monumental bronze sculpture by the artist Jivko Jeliazkov. Standing 2.50 meters tall and weighing over 500 kg, the sculpture rests on a Rocheville stone pedestal.

The artist’s connection with Troyes goes back a long way. It was Troyes-based gallery owner Éric Dumont who first brought the artist to the city in 2007 and who has since helped introduce his work to the people of Troyes. It was also through his efforts that *Le Pèlerin* was temporarily displayed on Rue Turenne in the spring of 2025, where the work captivated passersby.

Acquired by the City of Troyes in December 2025, the sculpture was subsequently given a permanent home on Place Jean-Jaurès, completing the redevelopment of that space. It thus joins the fifty or so sculptures that already dot the city, including about fifteen contemporary works.

Born in Bulgaria, trained in Czechoslovakia, and having settled in France in the 1990s, Jivko Jeliazkov has developed a distinctive sculptural style, notably through a honeycomb casting technique using beeswax. His career has been notably recognized with the Vermeil Medal for Arts and Letters from the Académie française.

With its imposing and enigmatic silhouette, *Le Pèlerin* now marks a new stop on the journey of discovery through Troyes’ urban sculpture.
