About

Isle-Aumont is located in the south of the Greater Troyes area, between Moussey and Saint-Thibault.

Its name has a Latin origin: insula (meaning island) due to its location between the marshy Seine valley, the Hozain and Mogne rivers. The term is attested as early as 754. After 1665, Isle became Aumont due to its ownership by Duke Antoine d'Aumont. In 1790, by decree, the commune became Isle-Aumont.

The town's main attractions include a hill on which, in Merovingian times, an abbey was established, one of the first monastic settlements in Gaul, associated with a vast necropolis of faithful wishing to be buried next to the relics of a saint, and a double church containing the oldest Christian monuments in the region. From 1943 to 1961, archaeologist Jean Scapula undertook a systematic excavation of the mound, uncovering almost 1,000 burials, including some 600 Merovingian sarcophagi, making it a commune steeped in history, visited by almost 3,000 people a year, many of them foreign tourists.

The commune also boasts a stadium, boulodrome, village hall and foyer.

There are 4 businesses and craftsmen: masonry, painting, bodywork and tiling, as well as 6 associations: comité des fêtes, amicale des pompiers, club de gymnastique volontaire, club des anciens, loisirs créatifs and club de soccer.
