About

Estissac is a dynamic market town on the Troyes/Sens axis, on the edge of the Forêt d'Othe, about 20 km from the center of Troyes.

A little history: first it was Saint-Liébault. During the French Revolution, the château was burnt and destroyed, and for 2 years the commune was known as Val Libre. The De La Rochefoucauld family, who had owned the commune for several generations, renamed it Estissac in memory of their Périgord roots.

The village grew up around its three rivers: the Vanne, the Bétrot and the Ancre, in the center of a 5-hectare wooded area, crossed by an old national road and a railroad line.

Estissac comprises 2 hamlets: Thuisy and Vaugeley, and a separate village: La Forge.

A 16th-century covered market and the church of Saint Loup de Thuisy, with its 16th-century stained glass windows, are listed historic monuments.

The former Brûley-Doré hosiery factories and buildings have been refurbished to house a home for disabled adults. Numerous workshops are still visible, testifying to the high level of activity during the last century, when there were over 300 hosiery workers.
The town center (town hall, church, schools) has just been completely redeveloped and made safe.

The commune has a "trois rivières" school with 8 classes, including kindergarten and elementary. All children can take advantage of the school canteen, morning and evening childcare and a leisure center operating on Wednesday afternoons and during school vacations. Several businesses and industries are present in the local artisanal zone.
A medical center will open in 2017, bringing together 14 healthcare professionals.
A number of events are organized each year, the best-known being the Sainte Catherine fair in November, the oldest in the Champagne Ardenne region, dating back to 1806.

Numerous sports and entertainment associations are present in the commune, offering a wide range of activities.
On the 1st weekend of May, the town is the venue for the Portes du Pays d'Othe cycling race, recognized by the U.C.I.
The commune was awarded its 1st fleur in 2015, rewarding work focused on beautification and sustainable development.
Estissac is a rural commune where life is good, combining the calm of the countryside with the proximity of the city.
