About
Villechétif is a rural commune located just 4 km from Troyes city center.
It is unique in that it includes the hamlet of Belley, which by virtue of its geographical location is now home to 2/3 of the commune's inhabitants. It has preserved its rural character, while remaining attractive to families wishing to acquire land on the outskirts of the Troyes conurbation.
In the 10th century, it existed as such, its name coming from a great Roman lord who bought a villa and gave it his name: Chestinus Acoutinus. It was then that his property, which was just a villa, became Villa Chestinus. This name changed several times over the centuries: Villachet in 1146, Villa Chestini in 1191, Villa Cestini in 1208, Vilachetin in 1218, Villechuetin in 1256 and finally Villechetifduring the 13th century.
Agricultural activity remains important in the commune.
The Mercières business park was created in 2003 and has grown steadily over the years, hosting well-known retailers such as Festilight and Botanic, as well as restaurants including Léon de Bruxelles and La Pataterie, a design office, wellness services (Womba Parc, Vénus fitness, Blue Box, hairdresser, etc.), a health center with dentist, nurse and osteopath, and a veterinarian. Other businesses located outside the business park include Préf'aub modular buildings, an architect, a chartered accountant and eight farms.
Villechétif has a marsh, a Natura 2000 protected site, which is home to a certain biodiversity.
The commune has a multi-purpose hall, a stadium with 2 playing fields and changing rooms, a reading center and a nursery and elementary school.
