About

Verrières is an elongated village, whose elegant church stands on the edge of a country road that tries, but doesn't always succeed, to follow the lazy meanders of the Seine.

The commune is made up of three hamlets that came together over time to form the present village:

- Saint-Martin, whose name evokes the famous patron saint of ancient Gaul, existed as early as 1145. It had a population of 40 around 1290 and was annexed to Verrières in 1795. It then had 63 inhabitants, and its church was sold as national property and demolished the same year.
- Saint-Aventin, whose name recalls the memory of the pious hermit who lived here in the 6th century and died here in 537, was also annexed to Verrières in February 1795.
- Verrières, which already existed in the year 500, depended on the Intendance and the Généralité de Châlons until the Revolution, when it became a commune of the canton of Aumont until IX of the Republic.

The calm of the countryside, the charm of the Seine valley and the proximity of Troyes (10 km from the town center) make Verrières a pleasant village.

A dozen sports, social and cultural associations, grouping together multiple sections, offer varied entertainment and organize occasional events.

A stadium, a multi-sports field, 2 tennis courts, a multi-purpose hall and a library are all available to residents.

The presence of essential medical and commercial services makes the village a highly sought-after place to live. Verrières, while retaining the characteristics of a rural commune, can be likened to a semi-urban commune.
