About

Vauchassis, a commune in the Pays d'Othe region, is located west of the Troyes conurbation, 16 km from Troyes city center.

Two hypotheses for the origin of the name. In 1188, the commune was named Vallis Charci, from a Latin valley and a place or man's name (Chassy: Cassiacum/belonging to Cassius), i.e. "the valley of Cassius". For others, the name derives from "Val chasseux" (hunting valley), due to its location in a valley hollow and its game-filled forests.
The star-shaped settlement is typical of the region. Combining half-timbering, brick, chalk and flint, the built environment offers a harmonious palette of colors. The Church of the Assumption of the Virgin, consecrated in 1760, with its carillon, and the Town Hall, built in 1892, are the village's two outstanding monuments.

Vauchassis's peaceful countryside and its location on the edge of valleys overlooked by forests and orchards make it a pleasant and very attractive commune. It boasts a remarkable, unspoilt setting, yet is close to a major urban area.

Agriculture and forestry are the main economic activities. With 680 ha of forest, Vauchassis is the 2nd largest forest commune in the Aube region.

Vauchassis has an elementary school with 3 kindergarten classes, a canteen and an after-school care service. The other classes are grouped together in Prugny. Several facilities are available to residents: 2 multi-purpose halls, 1 tennis court, 1 basketball court, 1 playground, 1 ping-pong table and 1 soccer pitch.

Vauchassis is also home to a number of craftsmen and associations.
