About
The commune's name has been known since 1136 in the form of Torvillare, as mentioned in the cartulary of the Abbey of Saint-Loup.
It comes from the root "Tor", a Germanic man's name (from the Norse warrior god Thor) followed by "villare", estate, hamlet. In the 12th century, the lordship of Torvilliers belonged to the Counts of Champagne.
Over the past 6 years, the commune has undergone a profound transformation. Road repairs and the creation of sidewalks have given it a more modern look. Its proximity to the town gives it a semi-rural image, but Torvilliers retains all the charm of the countryside.
However, its inhabitants are essentially turned towards Troyes, for their professional activities, their children's studies and all the needs of daily life.
In the midst of these beautiful half-timbered houses and barns, whose owners have managed to preserve the charm of the Champagne region by renovating them, a number of new buildings have been added to bring in the hallmarks of the 21st century.
Since 2008, the construction of a new elementary school has provided children with modern, comfortable facilities. Childcare facilities have also been renovated. All children have access to the school canteen, morning and evening childcare and during all school vacations.
Torvilliers has a stadium, a village hall and 2 outdoor tennis courts.
Around twenty companies are located in the industrial zone. The Grand Troyes park will develop this business park. A large number of craftsmen are based in the heart of the commune.
The commune has considerably improved its living environment, planting with a view to sustainable development. It was awarded a 2-flower label in 2010.
