About
The commune is located 10 km south of Troyes.
The choir and apse of Saint-Pouange church date from the 16th century and were built on 13th-century foundations. It features 16th-century stained-glass windows. It was raised around 1622. A sacristy was built around 1850 and a turret in 1853, with an oak staircase leading to the bell dating from 1855.
A presbytery dating back to the 18th century which, after many ups and downs since the French Revolution, has been restored to its original purpose of providing free accommodation for the parish priest appointed to Saint-Pouange, thanks to a generous donation made to the commune by the Artan/Provence family on February 23, 1828.
It was here that Edouard Herriot spent his childhood with his great uncle, Abbé Collon.
Today, the building has become the "Edouard Herriot" cultural center, housing the library, school canteen and "Mémoire de Saint Pouange" meeting room.
The name given to the inhabitants of Saint-Pouange is said to have originated from the wild gladioli that abound along the waterways (several species exist, including the Glaïeul des Marais).
The commune boasts a number of sports, cultural and other facilities: a nursery school and elementary school, a library, a first-aid center, a multi-purpose hall, a soccer field, tennis courts, a boules pitch and soon a city park.
The commune also boasts a large number of businesses and craftsmen in a variety of fields.
