About

Messon is located at the gateway to the Pays d'Othe, 15 km from the center of TROYES.

Its name comes from MECON, Latin for Meconium, meaning "opium", hence the three poppies replacing the three ducal crowns on the speaking arms created in 1989. The inhabitants are spread over three hamlets: Messon, Villecerf and Errey.

Its heritage includes the church of Saint Pierre es Liens, a 17th-century château and a medieval farmhouse known as the "Carthusian". The hamlet of Errey was home to a 13th-century Templar house. Despite successive destructions and reconstructions, walls and small turrets can still be seen, as well as a dovecote.

The landscape and forest offer hikers and mountain bikers a wide range of circuits. Local associations contribute to the daily life of the village through a wide range of sporting and cultural activities.

Today, the majority of residents commute to the greater Troyenne area for their professional activities, but farming remains an important activity in the commune. Thanks to its hilly terrain and wine-growing past, Messon is part of the new Champagne appellation production area.

The Groupe Scolaire de l'Orée d'Othe (GSOO), a recent inter-municipal school in Fontvannes, caters for kindergarten and elementary school children. Leisure activities are also available all year round.
