About
To the south of Champagne humide, the clay band that crosses the département diagonally, alternating between meadows and forests, lies 25 km from the town of Tricasse,...
.... the commune of Jeugny, which borders the communes of Crésantignes, Fays-la-Chapelle and Mâchis.
Easily accessible via the RN77, it has 3.6 km of road.
A rural commune, it has been to a lesser extent than others, developing a little mixed farming on the few chalky soils it possesses, mainly livestock farming in the wet meadows that extend to the edge of the forest. A forest community, it has undeniably been so for several centuries. The forest has been, and remains, the economic and social lifeblood of the village. Since 1547, Jeugny has been the undivided owner of 997 ha, now shared with the neighboring communes of Crésantignes, Fays-la-Chapelle, Mâchy, Longeville and Les Maupas. In addition to its resources, the forest has been the source of Jeugny's strength and unity. Today, managed by an inter-municipal syndicate, it is the object of great care and responsibility on the part of the syndicate and the ONF.
A program to build single-family homes has led to a demographic upturn, supported by the existence of a school grouping together the 9 member communes, with around 150 pupils in 6 classes, benefiting from an appropriate after-school care service.
Driven by a strong desire to reinvigorate life in Jeugny, the municipal council supports community life, encourages the active participation of local residents through volunteer workcamps, and makes a major contribution to the development of a multiservice center that currently houses a postal agency, a bread and gas depot. In addition, the house offers space for a grocery store and a hairdresser's shop.
The Jeugny Festif association and the Amicale des pêcheurs de la Mogne are working for the local residents.
Last but not least, the nationally-renowned Hennion stable, which offers a warm welcome and bed & breakfast accommodation, as well as the pleasure of strolling through the forest, picking mushrooms and spotting rare, protected orchids at the forest's edge.
