About
Javernant is a village on the edge of the Othe forest, 20 km south of Troyes (towards Auxerre), which probably already existed in the 12th century.
Its main activity is farming. The commune boasts one historic monument, the church built in the 16th century, whose portal is listed in the inventory of historic monuments. It is also home to statues, fragments of stained glass and various items of furniture, all of which are listed, registered or noted in the inventory...
Since the end of the 19th century, the church has boasted its own source of drinking water, which is particularly good, free of pesticides and nitrates, as it is drawn from under the forest. Unfortunately, it is now insufficient to supply the entire population on a permanent basis, and when the water flow diminishes, the village must intermittently tap into the water tower of a neighboring commune (Villery).
In addition, an inter-communal structure, in the form of a syndicate comprising the communes of Bouilly, Souligny, Javernant and Sommeval, has been set up in Bouilly, enabling our children's education, from nursery school to secondary school, to be housed on the same site. They can also take advantage of the school canteen and morning and evening childcare services.
The commune has a small village hall. A festival committee organizes events.
An orchard open to residents is managed by volunteers.
