About
Fresnoy le Château is located south of the greater Troyes area, around 20 km from Troyes and 10 km from the Forêt d'Orient lakes.
Residents live in Fresnoy le Château, Renault and Haut Chêne. The commune also includes the farms of Borde, Plessis and Champlalot, as well as an old Tuilerie with a large chimney that dominates the landscape.
The village is situated in the middle of a 5-hectare wooded area, crossed by an old national road and a railroad line.
Originally known as "Fresnoy" as a branch of the commune of Clérey, it became a commune in 1725. The addition of the qualifier "le Château" was authorized by decree on February 4, 1919. Since Fresnoy sounds the same as Fresnay, there was some confusion in correspondence.
Its landscapes are characterized by gentle rolling hills, but also by arable land, meadows and forests.
Local activities are essentially agricultural, divided between farming and cattle breeding.
There are two public spaces: the Place de la Charme, a vast open space, and the Place de l'Eglise, which is the commune's main thoroughfare, along with the town hall.
The Château du Plessis, a 13th-century Templar stronghold, has been listed as a historic monument since 2001, and was modified in 1829.
The church, known as Notre Dame de l'Assomption, was built in 1868. Modern and undefined in style, it features fine stained-glass windows, paintings and a remarkable holy-water font.
The A5 freeway runs through the commune from west to east, and the two service stations located along the freeway are Installations Classées pour la Protection de l'Environnement (Classified Installations for Environmental Protection).
Fresnoy le Château is a rural commune where various events are organized throughout the year by the Comité des fêtes, to encourage residents to get together. It has a village hall and a firefighters' association. There are also 2 businesses, as well as a petrol station and an Autogrill on the A5 Troyes/Le Plessis freeway service area.
