About

Originally named Ronsieus, then Ronceniacum in 1200, Roncenay is a peaceful village located 12 km from Troyes and 4.5 km from Bouilly, with its highest point at 132.8 m.

It's a pleasant place to live, and a stopping-off point for walkers on their way to Santiago de Compostela. The boundaries of the village are marked by the Roman road, formerly known as the Chemin des Romains. This road ran from Sedan to Nevers (Troyes to Auxerre).

The town hall, built in 1899, the washhouse, built in 1883, and a pond, where the locomotives of the Troyes district (Troyes-Roche Migennes line) used to get their water, are part of the village's heritage. As there is no church in the commune, residents can go to the inter-communal church in Villy-le-Maréchal.

Roncenay used to be a small farming village, but today only 2 farmers remain. However, Roncenay is home to a large grain silo belonging to the Vivescia export group, which is undergoing constant renovation. 2 trains a week transport goods to foreign ports and countries. The site is bordered to the west by the Roman road, to the north-west by the Hurande river and to the south-east by the railroad.

Children attend elementary school in Saint-Pouange, then collège in Bouilly.
