New presentation of the Graphic Arts Department
Nicolas Dhervillers, an artist compared to Gustave Le Gray
From 3 November 2021 to 31 January 2022
The Musée des Beaux-Arts responds to the invitation of the Centre d'Art Contemporain / Passages by offering a photographic counterpart.
Thus, the contemporary artist Nicolas Dhervillers presents his Crossfade series alongside a selection of photographs by Gustave Le Gray (1820-1884).
Le Gray is one of the founders of photographic art. He developed a personal work through series made in Paris, in the forest of Fontainebleau and by the sea, from Cherbourg to Sète. Some of his famous seascapes will be taken out of the museum's reserves and presented here, in the graphic arts cabinet.
At the same time, the Art Center presents until December 11, 2021, a retrospective exhibition of his last fifteen years, "D'une rive à l'autre", mixing photographic series, drawings, prints and photographic transfers.
